This is slam bang stuff against the drug lords and drug peddlers is on and District Police Poonch have set themselves for mission possible!
There is no point in arguing whether the drugs travel in or they do not in district Poonch. The question is how to stop the menace and perhaps it is here that DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range Vivek Gupta has got his grids right.
And why not he has plenty of stalwarts in his team in the district beginning with SSP Poonch Dr. Vinod Kumar, the officers and the men who are go-getters in all respects.
Incidentally by looks SSP Dr. Vinod is more of a scholarly sort of man with a calm face and a pleasing smile but inwardly a hard core professional who believes in calling spade a spade and his work ethics are sublime.
Perhaps every top cop in Jammu and Kashmir Police knows that the emblem of the thin line between being within law and breaking it. Those who break it have to go for a toss and that is precisely what is happening in this expansive district of Poonch.
With militancy hung up on the hooks it’s time to get after another melting pot and that is of the deadly drugs floating which are eating into the young men and slowly destroying their inner bodies like termites. This virus of drugs has to be nipped and that is where the hands of law have landed.
It simply shows just how seriously the district police are taking this heavy responsibility in service of their community. Whether you’re working nights, days, or mids, they are the rough men and women who allow the community to rest well in their beds.
When sensitive/serious information is available then the only course left for the Police is to act. In Poonch plenty of things have been happening on the drugs front. Thus it was the right time that the police got into a high octane action routine and snuffed off 18 people involved in the crime related to drugs and booked them in 13 separate cases in the district in the past one month and the Doctor has said that it is just the beginning of the end! If the latter becomes a reality it would be a relief for the jacked up parents who have been driven to a corner by their own child moving in the swamp of stupor and droop all throughout in twenty four hours.
The reports emanating from Poonch and the countryside are simply gut wrenching since the drugs have reduced the young kids to wilting candles with no hope of recovery in sight. The parents of the young boys are anguished, the sisters weeping in the corners of the houses and the oldies on their beds in these virus times sit silent and watch the maneuvers of the new generation of the family simply descending themselves into the world of dark and frightening images.
impressive slogans drawn on walls caricatures about the harmful effects of drugs impacting our younger generation are there but the kids are still refusing to behave. It is difficult to regard some bawdy drunk and see him as sick and powerless. It is difficult to suffer the selfishness of a drug addict who will lie to you and steal from you. Can there be any other disease that renders its victims so unappealing? The drug sellers mug them up and supply them with substances which basically are killing doses.
The joints would be many in the district and each and everyone of them have to be busted apart. The addicts queue up haphazardly behind a peddler, talking loudly and piercing the atmosphere with sleek abusive language. They just want the substance and the cost could be any. They create a nuisance of sorts and amidst this the children, ladies and decent people have to walk. They know that they can do precious little in this drug mob.
It’s the same story every time the addicts in the area want to go out. Someone wants cannabis. One wants something with great knock off stuff in the form of a potion that can be injected since syringes are easily available. The other wants something different like say a whitish substance known as Chitta locally. One can debate endlessly on what to buy and consume. The array of commodities available are bountiful. You pay, get knocked off and remain drowse ridden till the body urges for yet another shot. This is a friendly, unpretentious, attentive person till the time that things do not get out of control. For addicts it is trendy, bright and friendly only for the time when money is there in wallets. When finished it is beg, borrow, steal or hit and run scenario takes over.
It is shocking to see what they have become today, wretchedly haggard faces, distinct wrinkles on faces, hair disheveled and in some cases withered away by the effects of drugs, big swollen chests beaten to pulp since they have shrunk, sumptuous biceps now shrunk to the level of bones, a poor semblance as to what they were once upon a time and the legs wilting under the weight of a fragile body frame. Drugs kill no doubt but before killing they make a person look like an old ass braying and walking on the road not exactly knowing where to go.
I. Thus it was time to act:
The last one month has produced great results but the SSP knows that the fight is not over as yet, in fact it has just begun therefore some resounding action is bound to come. The people want it to come sooner.
Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch, Dr. Vinod Kumar said that action against people involved in the crime of drug peddling is top priority for Poonch police.
Dr. Vinod said that a total of 18 people involved in the crime have been arrested in the past one month since 8th May. We have registered 13 FIRs in the police stations of Surankote, Mendhar, Poonch and Gursai.
He further informed that recovery of narcotics have been made from the people who had been arrested and further investigations are going on to get to the bottom of this nuisance.
Drug mafia in UT J&K is well spread but it can be broken. Drug lords would never come to the forefront and hence they have to be taken on piece meal or via the mode of sausage cut and that is what UT Jammu and Kashmir police is doing.
SSP further said that civil society has a pivotal role in this fight against drug addiction in society and appealed to civil society to share information of people involved in this crime directly with his nearest police establishment and their identity will be kept under the covers.
Kids are dying because of ignorance. They are dying because they need essential safety information which drug sellers will never give. They are dying because they do not know the science of drugs, even if they know they will say that the drugs are the right thing to take and thus are ruthlessly pushing their ideological agenda instead. They are dying because they are not the first casualty, there have been many before could be possible their own friends, the worse they know it! Thus saying no to drugs is an appropriate thing because you will save your own life! District Police Poonch will always help you out because they will definitely say to the addict, ‘you are not bad but drugs are’!
