A girl’s life in the mountains and deep in the interiors is as fascinating as a natural wanderer or traveler but the talent can be promoted much farther!
What they need is the edge to express themselves but at the moment that is missing. Not because of their fault but because of the fact that at an age when they should be in class rooms and colleges, they are instead lost in the wilderness. They need to be pulled out of the wilderness and taught to get their foot on the ladder where the last step is not known. The final step of satisfaction and achieving glory in life!
Budhal is a great place to be in given the extravagant natural beauty of the place. It can automatically become a place of immense tourist interest provided requisite interest is taken. At the moment none has been shown so far though it has been talked about and written in plenty. Similarly are the people simple, innocent, within their limits progressive and needless to mention beautiful. Te girl kids want to move ahead but cannot and the reasons are that their vision and mind gets subdued within the mountains because they have never ever been given a take off point especially those belonging to the nomads. They live in their psychological traps, guided by a similar and monotonous routine and lost in the world of dreams and so far their dreams have died first lost in the valleys of forlorn mountains. This is one such story of girls who grew up here as toddlers dreaming about their future but with very limited aims because the opportunities too fell in the similar category’!
Strange it may sound to many but these girls of the nomadic tribes get very little chance to prove their worth because they have a very enclosed life, several embargoes imposed upon them by customs and traditions which are basically all about wandering with the animals in the age when they should be studying and competing but their story starts and ends with the famous nursery rhyme, ‘Mary had a little lamb, whose fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went, the lamb was sure to go. It followed her to school one day, which was against the rules. It’s time to change the rules, the question is how? But so far none have been found! Hopefully they would be one day as suggested in the picture with the story because the girl is seen wondering as to whether she could reach the sky? She can, provided she is given the wings!
They are born like any other girl would be, they grow up with all the love that their parents can shower on them as ours grow but the difference is in environment as these kids are reared in the mountains and are cradled by nature and we buy ours cradles and prams, they learn to walk the hard was and ours in sophisticated modernized version also known as walkers, they play with live toys in form baby lambs and puppies but ours with the artificial versions of the same, they grow up learning the traditions set in the nomadic traditions while ours get into the books early, as they attain their teens they are hardened and strong because of the vigorous tough schedule of day to day living while ours get into gyms for the work outs to become stronger and get the limbs moving and finally they move up to lead the households and worldly affairs and ours steam ahead pursuing their aims to create a space for themselves amongst the stars. The difference is huge but perhaps that is the law of nature since everyone cannot be alike but that laws can be changed if the government tries to create something for them as regards opening the doors of opportunity for them since at the moment the next door for them is the next mountain pass that would lead them to their meadow for a summer settlement or in the winters down in the valley on roof tops with the closest friend the animals as it can be seen from the picture.
Perhaps she too has dreams. Gazing at the horizons, mountain ridges, peaks sun and stars happens to be their favorite pass time could be also meaning that she wants to take a gigantic leap to reach there, where she is gazing but she needs a take off point and that is nowhere to be seen, trust me many of them would not have even seen Rajouri properly and may be a day would come that they would be doing that but at the moment that is at a far distance. but that could be shortened if a space is created for them by the government. All they need is a spark and ignition and see what these wanderers and travelers of this glorious wonderland can do!
Just walk to the girl kids and grown ups and invariably you will find them with a stick in hand chasing their herd, the meadows, the mountain gully’s, the banks of the brooks, streams and alpine lakes found in plenty in Pi Panjals are their favorite haunts and when you have a pleasing look at them they will smile and the flash of that is as soft as the breeze blowing and akin to the bonny waves as any river would be proud to do and the ripples in lakes which makes the whole seen so gratifying but alas! Instead of a stick they could be having books it would have been all the much greater.
They have a casual grace in them, as if they have a peripheral awareness of their own beauty yet would rather prefer to be at peace in this warm sun. This is not the story of one particular girl of the mountains but it is about every girl kid and those grown up. Watching them is a happy song, a poetry to the eyes and soul, bright in all the hues our earth can dream of. All they need is to be exposed to books and classes to sharpen that edge in them which at the moment is blunted! The administration can do it then why not just do it!
