And these guys have to be from the Khaki Bridae of Jammu and Kashmir police because they are the diehards who just believe in doing it!
-‘Without them people would not have moved an inch but they did!’
-‘The villagers are mum as some of their close ones whom they have vanished as if picked up by the aliens into a distant world because their whereabouts on that night when the demons roared have never been found as yet. They may well never be. But life has to move on because the Lord Sun does not stop its movement up in the skies sometimes in the East and sometimes in the West mostly yellow and laughing in abundance but when it decides to hide behind the clouds for a rest hell does tend to break loose! Kishtwar was the place that night when something outrageous happened and moon along with its friends also were in their hideouts in the heavens. The aftermath had to be terrible and it was. None other than the human beings and other inhabitants of this place in one corner of the planet were just mowed over like lifeless identities. The lucky ones survived but some got lost in the waters unleashed by the monitors of hell. It was an apocalypse in every sense for the people who were stunned by an Armageddon unleashed by the Gods of nature.’
‘A man has a swagger but so does Nature, man has a style that is both aggressive and submissive and nature has the same but there is a major difference. Man does not live forever but nature survives all the injuries and grievous wounds to it. Throughout his/her lifetime the humans win but when it is a contest man versus nature the confidence of humans swaggering into a storm, well, of all the possible conflicts that was the one that has to be the hopeless one. Even a slim education had taught me this much: Man loses but still nature comes to help as is visible from the picture with the story’!
-‘Even after ten days none of the missing were found. Down the slopes when the rivers blow apart everything really goes bad. But what is lost cannot come back, because it will never and the villagers in Honzar know that. Getting swept away by mother nature is not uncommon by civilizations down the history but what is necessary is that the lessons have to be learnt. Mankind will do its best to put the order as planned but nature has its own? You cannot fight mountains, you climb to boast as conquerors. That is fabulous. Ever Since Tenzing , Edmund Hillary have got onto the top, many have done it and faded away in the glory of mountains but peaks stand. Everest still is the stiffest of peaks to climb’! We all love to be the first amongst the equals.’
After the devastation in Honzar the mankind did get moving! And these guys have to be from the Khaki Brigade of Jammu and Kashmir police because they are the diehards who just believe in doing it! Have a look at the picture with the story.
Mankind has been bestowed with many qualities but they are not those full of explanations as to how to live in the lap of nature. People of Honzar lived in the best of locales. It was the best place possible with all the facilities, including the right to vote! But no leader ventures when the situation is precarious. I hope that would have been understood by the people. In front of Mother Nature everyone fails, if humans do then the top men in the chairs also because they too are humans and are on the same platform. There are reasons for that are as follows:
The toughest man physically takes five and a half hours to reach there from the road head to the village, with heavens trying to loosen themselves above human heads; it could take more than resilience to withstand the onslaught. The only hope is ‘weather Gods get into a silence mode’.
But that also does not happen as soon as we want it to happen. If you hack down trees to earn money in upper regions, who will hold the water?
Human beings have yet to be robots or transformer machines. But machines also do not survive when the water is excessive.
We have made our mark on the world and so have the people of Honzar, but we have really done nothing that the trees and creeping plants, ice and erosion, cannot be removed in a fairly short time. We do plant them but what the older ones did for ages have been hacked.
Honzar stream would not have gone berserk if the trees were standing?
But who cares. This was another warning to behave. The take has to be of human beings, for many in this region it is money that counts and they think they are the best with people flowing away never to be found again! This is bound to become a parable.
It is great that the walking pathways are being made and Jammu and Kashmir Police is doing it with men at work. They are trying to revive the movement over the ogre of a streamlet that night but still people have to walk through life. They ultimately did it but what is required is permanency in villages where none exists! The various departments have to move in because this definitely is not a one time phenomenon. In areas like Honzar relief and rescue mean nothing. Indeed people have been saved but they found no one who went missing, though they tried their best. They could not have even with all the strength they had? I mean the rescue and relief teams.
I will conclude by saying that, snakes shed their skin, cats their fur, manta rays their teeth (Manta rays are large rays belonging to the genus Mobula). Man sheds used-up objects: he leaves an open Nesquik tin and a dirty glass on the kitchen counter, an open toothpaste tube, unmade beds, their sheets stained with urine; he leaves grandfather clocks, cigarette burns in the ashtrays, comics that have been scrawled on and books borrowed from the school library; he leaves clothes in the wardrobes and food in the fridge. But why does he devour nature? Free will is never without charge and is costliest when an individual chooses selfishness and avarice over the common good. Some think animals dumb but mark the instinctive co-operation of insects while men murder and steal and tell me we are superior!
Nothing else happened in Kishtwar. Humans destroyed nature and the pious lady struck back! Even the men in pictures at work knew it! On sunny days and when the Lord is all yellow we love to scare crows! But when the sun hides then it’s a serious problem. By the way, the sun cannot control the water and I think humans still have no idea how to do it. Someone I thought was speaking from Maharashtra when brown water was sweeping away anything and everything, ‘we are behind time’ he said, indeed we are!’
