As residents fled, Ukraine’s leadership declared martial law and said dozens were dead so far in what it called a “full-scale war” targeting the country from the east, north and south.

In a televised address as the attack began, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned other countries that any attempt to interfere would “lead to consequences you have never seen in history.”

He made the announcement in a video on Facebook, in which he also announced 316 Ukrainians have been wounded.

Zelenskyy said that, despite Russia’s claim it is only attacking military targets, civilians are also under attack.

“They’re killing people and turning peaceful cities into military targets,” said the Ukrainian president. “It’s foul and will never be forgiven.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said at least 137 Ukrainian civilians and soldiers have been killed in the fighting so far.
