Environmental deterioration is one of the largest threats humanity is facing right now. The united nations strategy for disaster reduction characterises environmental degradation/ deteriorating as the lessening limit of earth to meet social and enviromental of the destination and needs of humans. Environmental degradation can happen in a number of ways, mainly by human activities to the point where environment is wrecked and common assests are compromised. The enviromental degradation has not only affected nature, like forests, sea life, water, but in the long run, the uncontrolled usage of natural non-renewable resources, defforestation, releasing pollution, both chemical and gas can make the survival of humans very difficult. The carbon footprints humans leave, both knowingly and unknowingly impacts the enviroment in a huge way, Natural resources are nonetheless important for survival of humans life but as technology has progressed, we as humans have found lot of replacements / alternatives to natural resources such as solar energy also, electric cars have entered the automobile market which on electricity rather than using petroleum or diesel as normal cars do. It’s about time we lessen the use of non-renewable resources and settle for the alternatives.
Climate change is also the reason of uncontrolled activities of humans that affect the environment. CO2 produced by human activities is the largest contributor to global warming. By 2020, its concentration in the atmosphere had risen to 48% above its pre-industrial level (before 1750).
GROWING POPULATION AND EXCESSIVE USE OF NATURAL RESOURCES
It can clearly be seen how the use of natural resources / fossil fuels has increased over the period of time with no sign of stopping.
Human population has also contributed wastly to the deteriorating environment. As the population grew rapidly in the 18th and 19th century and the industrial revolution took place, newly made factories and usage of natural resources was more or less unsupervised and environment was given almost no importance. It was only later the world governments took notice as to the damage that was being done to the environment.
*EFFECTS ON THE HUMAN FROM BAD ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS*
Excessive pollution has a really worrying impact on the human health.
The polluted air can cause damage to the respiratory system. Many cities in India have bad air conditions, 22 of the 30 most polluted cities are in India and millions have to breath polluted air, this in in the long turn reduces life expectancy of the inhabitants of such cities.
Almost everyone is aware of the problems now but not the solution.
PROBABLE SOLUTION TO ENVIRONMENTAL CRISES:
If Understood and thought about the enviromental problems, many solutions can be found to stop this crisis. Many organisations like ‘U.N (united nations) and Agenda 21 have brought world goverments together to find a solution. But In my opinion, it should start on grassroot levels, within the general public, everyone should take an initiative to reduce their Carbon-footprint as much as possible.
Goverments of States should have a seperate ministry or a department consisting of only scientists and Geologists, no politics & diplomacy should be a part of that department. It would deal with enviromental problems solely.
An independent body that would only follow orders of the central goverment or international bodies like U.N.
And for the second probable solution,
A lot of carbon-emissions and usage of fuel is caused by cars and planes too. As, the cars are already going electric. It’s time we do something about the Airline industry too.
As everyone already knows, by travelling & from planes we leave a sizeable amount of carbon footprint, as most industries are going carbon neutral ,big tech giants like apple industries and Amazon too aspire to go all carbon-neautral by the year 2025, it is only the airline industry which just seems to increase it’s carbon emissions, for a solution to that we can opt for railways, not on international levels but for domestic. Japan is doing this quite well with their bullet train technology, Domestic flights are lessened and it is good for the environment. As bullet trains are already touching speeds of 350 km/h +, it would be more suitable for domestic travel inside the country.
with this solution, many problems arise such as , suitable railway tracks, domestic airliners would go in a loss. The solution to that can be:
Indian railway tracks are already widely spread ,they can be upgraded and new stations and railway tracks can be made to fit the needs of bullet trains considering the large population. people travelling from trains in a vast country like India could reduce the carbon footprint and carbon emissions drastically.
As to the problems of domestic airliners, they can be given a chance to reduce their operations as domestic flights would still be functional but the main option will be train, in another option , they can be given a chance to upgrade their airlines from domestic to international travel. For this process, the government can help the airline companies by providing subsidies and assistance in switching their business model.
There can be many solutions to this crisis but it cannot be solved my one government, one organisation or even one country. Every inhabitant of this planet should come together to save our home, bold steps must be taken in order to save this planet.
