Srinagar, August 28: Administration and Police on Thrusday appealed Shia community to follow COVID-19 protocol during Muharram.
In a joint statement issued by Divisional Commissioner, Inspector General of Police Kashmir said that we appeal to the members of Shia community to observe COVID protocols in the interest of everyone while participating in religious gatherings in connection with Mohrram and uphold their traditions of peace and brotherhood.
No one from the administration intends to unnecessarily interfere with them provided required precautions which are important are observed .
They said while they respect their religious sentiments , they are also duty bound to see that peaceful environment is not disturbed and no one among such gatherings is allowed to resort to any unlawful or undesirable activities.
The statement further stated that, two days back an instance came to notice in Police station Parimpora area where police had to register an FIR for anti-national demonstrations and slogans by a gathering. No such act shall be permitted and strict action shall be taken in such cases.
However Yesterday’s use of force in Budgam district could have been averted with better sense and conduct of the event on either side. Such avoidable instances are regrettable and should not be repeated they said.
They also appealed to the community for following Covid Protocals like wearing masks & maintaining social distancing while observing Muharum as it is is advisable for their own safety and safety of other fellow participants.
They Also urged them to defeat nefarious designs of miscreants and anti-national elements who take advantage of such occasions to bring bad name to otherwise law abiding and peaceful community known for its values of communal harmony and brotherhood, the statement added.
