Bandipora :-The Inter-District Rugby Championship started today at Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Bandipora. In which teams from all districts of Jammu and Kashmir UT are participating. The inaugural function was attended by District Development Commissioner Bandipora Dr. Owais Ahmed, SSP Bandipora, Muhammad Zahid Malik, Commanding Officer 14 Rashtriya Rifels PS Joshi, Commanding Officer 3rd Battalion CRPF, and several other senior officers. The three-day championship was officially launched by the District Development Commissioner.
About 54 teams are participating in the championship in different categories. Including several women’s teams. The captain and coach of the Srinagar women’s team Saleh Yousuf told, that she has been playing rugby for many years. She has also competed in several national level championships. She said that rugby is now becoming popular in the country as well as in Jammu and Kashmir. Infrastructure needs to be improved to further promote this game
The rugby player from jammu drushti said that she is very exited about the her participation in the chairmanship. She said that she has participated in lany Rugby evebts during the last few years and is sure that her team will qualify for the National championships.
District Development Commissioner Bandipora Dr. Owais Ahmed said that it is a matter of pride for us that so many teams from all districts of Jammu and Kashmir UT have come here. He said that it would not only further promote sports here but also provide an opportunity for the youth to meet each other and nurture each other’s talents.
