Fact Check: Photo of Indian Flag at Lal Chowk is morphed

An old, Morphed picture of Lal Chowk in Srinagar is being shared on Twitter by many users with a claim that the national flag is flying atop the clock tower there

The picture was shared many top influenced Twitter handles including BJP leader Kapil Mishra, BJP MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for it, on the eve of Independence Day.

Here is the photo of Lal Chowk from today.

But the photo posted by some BJP leaders is an old and morphed image. A blogger with the name as ‘Mubasshir Mushtaq’, who identifies himself as a freelance journalist used this photo in his story titled ‘Paradise Lost?’ in 2010.
The picture is without the Tri-Colour flag on the top of Clock Tower at Lal chowk Srinagar

Twitter users have vocally reacted to this wrongful use of morphed images. and lashed out on the BJP Leader’s tweet.
