Rajouri: On the International Women’s Week celebrations, Indian Army conducted a Self Defence Workshop for the young women of Darhal in district Rajouri (J&K).
After a healthy session of Yoga, the training and demonstration of Wushu and Martial Arts was conducted with an objective of addressing the fear of women and to cement their perspective of being mentally and physically strong enough to defend themselves against all odds. The comprehension that there is less of violence and more of intelligence in self defence was driven home. Students of various schools and remote locations participated with great enthusiasm.
This was followed by a motivational address by Mrs Rekha Sharma, Chairperson, ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ Abhiyan, J&K, highlighting the milestones achieved by women worldwide and nationwide, the various welfare schemes for women and new opportunities for women in the Armed Forces.
Indian Army also felicitated six girl students of the village and adjoining areas for successfully passing the All India Sainik School Entrance Examination, an unprecedented feat for the region. It was heartwarming to hear the girls’ dreaming of donning the uniform after the historic decision last year; besides, they were all willing and motivated to serve the nation in whichever way they resonated to. The mesmerising voice of a young girl achiever with her song “O ri Chiraiya” capped the beautiful day like icing on the cake.
The event was whole-heartedly appreciated by all, expressing gratitude towards the Indian Army for playing a vital role in women empowerment, giving them a platform to raise their voice in the society as a whole.
