Indian doctors extend their helping hand

“Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani” , Indians can go anywhere away from India, but their heart remains in India. And it is once again seen in the midst of the havoc of the second wave of Corona. At a time when the sudden rise in corona cases put pressure on the Indian health services, Indian doctors settled in the US have extended a helping hand. For the past 2 weeks, the Council for Media and Public Policy Research, CMPPR, has been providing free consultations of American doctors to the public on Corona every day with the help of the NRI Federation of American Indian Diaspora. Even today, around 60 people consulted doctors on Zoom. People here are consulting doctors in Hindi, English, Punjabi, Gujarati and Telugu. This on-line service program takes place at 5.30 pm , Indian time, daily.
Director, CMPPR, Ritu Gupta, said t, “We are reaching people through social media and whoever sends their contact to us, we help them.”
Deepak Kevadia, President of NRI Federation and Indian businessman settled in US, said, “We are trying to connect and extend our services to more and more people in need. People in India are in trouble, so how can we sit idle and do nothing for people back home?
Ritu Gupta said that the scheme will run for the next 1 week. Due to the Corona, we are reaching people only through social media, but people from remote places also want to join in. It is difficult to reach the rural areas via Zoom at the moment because of strict lockdown. But the Indian doctors settled in America want to to help the people who have financial constraints, regarding corona as well as other diseases. CMPPR will organize weekly consultation sessions with people based remotely in India for different other diseases too. Our effort will be that our volunteers in rural and remote areas who have laptops will go and connect people on video calling so that people can discuss their problems and doctors can guide them about the solutions. Ashok Srivastava, also a Director with CMPPR, said that in the next step, we will invite Oncologists, Pediatricians and Obstetricians & Gynaecologists too.
