JKSC Holds Rugby Championsships In Srinagar, Bandipora & Anantnag

SRINAGAR: In continuation of its ‘Independence Day Sports Special Week 2021’ program, Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council (JKSC) on Tuesday organised two-day long rugby competitions in Srinagar, Bandipora and Anantnag districts of Kashmir Valley.

In Srinagar, the J&K Rugby Association (JKRA) under the aegis of JKSC started its District Srinagar Rugby Championship 2021-22 at Polo ground West on Tuesday. The two-day long championship will be be held between 10-11 August and more than 16 teams in both boys and girls, men and women category are slated to participate.

Meanwhile, Bandipora Rugby Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council started its District Bandipora Rugby Championship 2021-22 at S.K Stadium, Bandipora on Tuesday. The two days long championship will be from 10-11 August and more than 22 teams in both boys and girls, men and women will compete in the event.

District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipore, Dr. Owais Ahmad (IAS) was the chief guest and District Manager Bandipore, Abdul Majid was the guest of honour, according to an official statement.

In Anantnag, the JKRA successfully organised a Rugby competition through Anantnag Rugby Association. The tournament was sponsored by JKSC.

The District Anantnag Rugby Championship 2021 was played beyween 9 to 10 August at playground Arwani. The championship saw the participation of 11 boys’ teams.

“The main aim of this championship was to engage the youths of Anantnag in Rugby Game and instil the spirit of sportsmanship. In-charge Sports Stadium Anantnag, Bashir Ahmad was the chief Guest and distributed medals trophies & cash prize among the winners & runner-ups. He appreciated the Rugby players for active participation in the game. Hafiz Mohammad Asif was guest of honour.

In Sub-Junior boys category, Alaaba were the winners and Illahi Club Reds the runner-ups. In Junior category, Middle School, Loktipora team were the winners while Arwani Tigers ended up as runner ups. In senior boys category, Higher Secondary Arwani Club were the winners and Blue Team were the runner-ups.
