With limited resources and services available amid the COVID-19 pandemic, ‘hunger hero’ in Bandipora have come forward to help the poor and needy people

With the poor and homeless struggling for a meal amid lockdown in Bandipora, a group of youth has come forward to provide them free ration. They distributed rice, oil, flour, dal, vegetables, sugar, soaps, tea etc to poor people and have decided to do so till the end of lockdown. Farhat Wani an engineer by profession who initiated this process said that these items were provided to 200 helpless and needy people across Bandipora.

There are several poor people, a majority being vendors and daily wagers, who are finding it difficult to arrange food during this lockdown period. So we decided to provide them food and all the members of my team have contributed towards this cause, he said.

It was tough initially, but due to God’s grace and the generosity of friends and well-wishers, I managed to pull it through”, says Farhat.

Farhat Wani says it’s a shame that millions of people go hungry every day, while most people throw away leftover food. “I and my team, have taken a small step in tackling this issue. Hopefully, it will have an impact,” he says.

Meanwhile the people of Bandipora wholeheartedly applauds the efforts put in by Farhat and his team. He is undoubtedly an inspiration for all of us.
