Finally some good news as the oxygen plant makes its way to GMC Rajouri!

This was an extreme necessity since the virus has gone berserk and if the experts are to be believed then it has traveled into the remote villages of the Nation and no one knows as to what it is doing to the populace there!
Rewind back to April 2020 when the lock down had been imposed and the working laborers from different parts of India had no idea what they had to do and what would their future be like. Everything had been bolted and the travel jacked up. The basic reasons were the same which have been India’s nemesis down the ages as far as the poor go, no money, no food and at that time no wheels to travel. The panic bells had been sounded and the workers came out of their shelters in top cities like Mumbai, Pune, Ahmadabad, Bhopal, Jaipur, Amritsar, New Delhi and you name it. Even from Jammu and Kashmir the people left. Some began the long walks crisscrossing the Nation. Most reached and many could not as they perished midway. But then came the rescue and relief missions with trains, flights and ships on the move to take these workers to their destinations and get the stranded Indians back home. So far so good but one thing was not thought off that the virus too had travelled everywhere, Without the carriers knowing that maybe it had infected them!
Now fast forward to April 2021. The same set up was back as India got back to the rails. The work started yet again and we thought it was all fit and fine. The construction works restarted and so did the various industries to propel the economy. It was here, where the virus made its lethal executive decision, ‘enough of free breathing guys now face the onslaught and consequences’. The virus had completed the cycle of incubation and spread its deadly octopus like tentacles to strangulate humanity. Now it was healthcare, medicines and Oxygen that India needed and yet again we had to embarrassingly adopt the looking down approach. All stupendous claims are now sounding like exaggerated pulp fiction which was hollow, again the same old story but the words embalming it were soothing but that have all gone with the winds of fury that the virus unleashed!
Rajouri and Poonch are two very important border Districts of J&K. After the era of militancy the Districts are on the upward ladder as far as development and modernization goes. Jammu and Kashmir is doing splendidly well by giving away liberal funds to be utilized in proper perspective for the betterment of the people. But the Covid-19 carnage has played the spoil sport as it has done everywhere and anywhere in the Nation. Rajauri is a very spread out district with villages in remote areas in the hinterland surrounded by the Pir Panjals. Though there is no lock down because the cases are under control yet the fact is that there is no certainty as to when the things can go ballistic. The virus is unpredictable and is feasting on the unpredictability of the Nation and the people. In Rajouri and Poonch to avoid a serious emergency an Oxygen Plant has been set up in GMC Rajouri that is a welcome step because this will give time to establish back up plans which are so very necessary instead of fire fighting at the last moment as it is happening elsewhere countrywide.
Last week I told you a story as regards a girl who desperately needed oxygen to breathe as she had been latched on to by the virus. Panic stricken parents had called me up and I in turn rang up DIG Rajouri Poonch Range Vivek Gupta if he could help out. The positive man and the positive lady SSP Rajouri wasted no time and the cylinder was arranged, the girl got her breath back, the parents were on the seventh moon and the young kid is absolutely fine. But trust me others’ are not so lucky! Death does not give them a second chance, in fact it has given to none who perished under this ferocious onslaught by the virus.
Now finally , the much needed oxygen plant sanctioned for GMC Rajouri was commissioned which was a great relief for the people, during this entire year plus a couple of months more the people have suffered a lot and many precious lives have been lost, hopefully now with this plant the people of Rajauri and adjoining areas will get some relief and confidence. Now it is the system that has to handle or address the issues on their own. They need the support of the civil society and communication here is the key here.
Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Rajesh K Shavan commissioned a new set up 1000 LPM Oxygen Concentrator Plant here at GMC Rajouri. Among the others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Sher Singh; Principal GMC, Brij Mohan Gupta; Medical Superintendent GMC, Dr Mehmood; Assistant Executive Engineer Mechanical, Vinod Sharma besides the concerned officers and paramedical staff of the health Department were present on the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner was apprised that the capacity of the Oxygen concentrator plant installed in the GMC & AH is 1000 litres per min (LPM) and the plant will help in augmenting bed capacities in the district for successful treatment of Covid patients. While speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that the plant is a lifeline project given the COVID19 scenario and appreciated the efforts of the concerned executing agency for the speedy execution of the work and making it functional within the shortest possible time. The Deputy Commissioner said that this plant would meet the requirements of oxygen for COVID-19 patients in the district. In another statement Shavan said, with the commissioning of the plant, the district has become self-sufficient in terms of the medical oxygen needs.
Deputy Commissioner directed for ensuring uninterrupted power supply to oxygen concentrator plants so that the adequate and hassle-free oxygen supply is maintained in the GMC & AH. Regarding the medical oxygen supply in the peripheral hospitals of the district, the Deputy Commissioner apprised that concrete measures are being taken to ensure the adequate oxygen supply in the hospitals for the convenience of the Covid patients.
The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the public to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Government for appropriate COVID-19 pandemic behavior to break the highly infectious chain.
Therefore the time to act was yesterday. The decision to delegate authority to district level has to happen today. Enough of easy and languid talk which is now a thing of the past. It’s time to take the decisive decision. No options because this virus is now penetrating each and every hide out which we have created otherwise the experts would not have been telling is to wear double masks at home also! I think the readers would have understood what I mean by saying this! There has to be total recall to our extravagant daily activities which we used to do. The bottom line is no one is safe by the look of things yet if someone wants to play with fire the choice is his but do not get the other’s involved. Money may come back later but life, well we all know!
