The Pakistan Army is busy with exercises in Rawlakote!
By: M S Nazki
What it is they are trying no one knows but the markings out of different colors tell a different story, they are being held not far off from Poonch and Uri sectors as images depict!
It could be a routine training stint but of late in the past six months or so Pakistan Armed forces have carried out several professional exercises.
Practice is the hardest part of learning, and training is the essence of transformation. If it’s a part of the drills to sharpen their soldiers then its good but because the territory is Pak occupied one but if it is of the nature to the one they conducted prior to 1971 war then it has to be looked into with some seriousness.
The two photographs available with us clearly suggest that the place where the same are being conducted is 19 Kilometers away from Uri access and 21 Kilometers away from the Pooch axis. Both have been marked by arrows.
In one of the images one can see Pak soldiers moving about and the other depicts the terrain with roads and a river flowing.
Exercises are part of the training format but since December 2020 Pakistan has been conducting them with vigorous rapidity.
Though nothing is happening on the LOC and the borders it can certainly be concluded that plenty is happening in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir and other hidden locations.
If the reports have emerged that Pak is conducting an exercise then they have to be somewhat correct
Pakistan Army may be having the fire, in fact plenty of it because ever since independence they are the ones who are taking the first shot and testing india’s patience. Not a good idea though yet they have been trying to do so but they still have not realized that the champions know when to ignite the spark. And when on the occasion when it matters it is the Indian Army that wins the show hands down. Champions do not become champions when they win the event, but in the hours, weeks, months and years they spend preparing for it. The victorious performance itself is merely the demonstration of their championship character. I need not have more to tell this to our readers. They too have read what I have! Yes, I was talking about the series of war games and exercises which Pak conducted:
I. 20 Dec 2020: China and Pakistan conduct joint air drills
This was before the ceasefire was executed. China and Pakistan conducted joint air force exercises in the southern desert of Pakistan near the border. The drills come just a week after Chinese Defense Minister Gen. Wei Fenghe visited Pakistan and signed a memorandum of understanding for deepening military cooperation. The exercises, dubbed Shaheen or Falcon IX, are underway at the newly operational Bholari air base in the arid region of Sindh in the country’s south, less than 200 km from the Indian border. China had sent its fourth-generation Shenyang J-11 air superiority fighters and Chengdu J-10 multirole jets. Pakistan, meanwhile, was flying a mix of third-generation Chinese-made Chengdu F-7 interceptors, French Dassault Mirage 5 attack planes and the new multirole JF-17 Thunder jointly produced by China and Pakistan. No American equipment, such as the F-16 was used.
II. Feb 13 202:
The Pakistan Army held a month-long exercise in the Thar Desert, located in the Sindh province, to prepare for conflict in extreme desert environments. The exercise, code-named ‘Jidar-ul-Hadeed’, began on January 28 and was scheduled to conclude on February 28. The four-week long defensive manoeuvre exercise was aimed at validating the concept of defence in deserts. The Army has a Desert Warfare School at Chhor, Sindh which is 165 km from Hyderabad, Sindh. The school was established in 1987 to promote desert warfare.
III. April 1, 2021: Pakistan, US & Saudi Arabia Conduct Joint Air Exercise ‘Aces Meet’ At Undisclosed Location
Pakistan began a multinational air exercise ‘Aces Meet’ with the US and Saudi Arabia at an undisclosed air base in the country. Along with the flying contingents from the US and Saudi Arabia, the Air Forces of Jordan, Bahrain, and Egypt had been invited as observers. On March 27, a Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Tornado IDS aircraft arrived at Pakistan Air Force (PAF) base Mushaf in Sargodha to take part in the exercise.
However. The opening ceremony was addressed by the Deputy Chief of Air Staff (Operations) Air Vice Marshal Waqas Ahmed Sulehri on March 29. He said that the international exercises were not new but the particular cycle of ‘ACES Meet’ was unique due to the vast experience of the participants in counterterrorism and composite flying domains.
IV: Naval exercises:
Of late, the Pakistani military has conducted many war games including ‘Aman-2021’ biennial naval exercises which saw the participation of more than 40 countries including the US, Russia, China, and Turkey in February. The exercise was seen as a counter to India’s Malabar-2020 organized by the Indian Navy last year, whose flotilla included the aircraft carriers INS Vikramaditya and the USS Nimitz. It seems Washington is keen on playing ‘both sides’. The US Navy also took part in a PASSEX involving Indian Air Force Su-30MKIs and Indian Navy’s Shivalik-class frigate along with the American battle group. In addition, both India and the United States were participants in Desert Flag VI, an annual multi-national large force employment warfare exercise hosted by the United Arab Emirates Air Force at the famous Al-Dhafra air base.
V. Sri Lanka and Pakistan conduct joint exercise
The militaries of Sri Lanka and Pakistan conducted a 15-day joint exercise aimed at enhancing bilateral defense relations and sharing the rich experience of two armies against terrorism. Titled the ‘Ex-Shake Hands,’ the exercise was conducted in Saliyapura in North Central Province of Sri Lanka. It was aimed at enhancing the bilateral defense relations and mutually share the rich experience of two armies against terrorism, it said.
VII. This was a surprise
Pakistan will hold Pabbi-Antiterror-2021, under the aegis of Shanghai Cooperation Organization later this year. India’s participation would come amid a fresh peace process between both nations. The exercise is to take place at Pakistan’s premier anti-terrorism centre in Pabbi in Nowshera district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The exercise will be held under the aegis of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). If the plan goes through, it would be a historic event, given that it would be the first time that Indian forces will travel to Pakistan for any military exercise.
The development comes at a time when Pakistan Army chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa stressed on the need for India and Pakistan to bury the past and move forward. This was after the ceasefire. The decision to hold Pabbi-Antiterror-2021 was announced during the 36th meeting of the Council of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Pakistan’s National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) Pabbi, near Mangla Cantonment.
These were the ones which were in focus but what is this one. By the pictures it can be clearly made out that there is plenty of activity at a place which is 19 Kilometers from Uri and 21 Kilometers from Poonch. Plenty of vehicles, accommodation, and a helipad with a helicopter on the ground can be observed. As I said that it may be a training maneuver but suddenly the activity during the times of ceasefire is a bit unfathomable.
Well as far as Indian troops go they are right up there, on the watch and guarding the frontiers as robustly as ever. Drill, preparation of soldiers for performance of their duties in peace and war through the practice and rehearsal of prescribed movements. In a practical sense, drill consolidates soldiers into battle formations and familiarizes them with their weapons. Psychologically, it develops a sense of teamwork, discipline, and self-control; it promotes automatic performance of duties under disturbing circumstances and instinctive response to the control and stimulus of leaders. Modern drill is essentially of two types: close-order and extended-order, or combat drill. Close-order drill comprises the formal movements and formations used in marching, parades, and ceremonies. Combat drill trains a small unit in the looser, extended formations and movements of battle. That’s all fine since we also do it but this by Pakistan and that too not at a big distance in PoK is a bit irking!
