The conduct of one determines the fate of all- wise words by Alexander the Great. But how unfortunate that Kashmiri Muslims seem to have made themselves oblivious of realities of life, their sense of thought clouded by a manufactured tradition of resistance , a political underpinning shrouded by theories of religion based human rights violations.
Zeenat (Name changed) is the Widow of 45 yr old Parvaiz Ahmed Dar . She lost her husband to a cowardly attack by terrorists, in broad daylight of June 22.nd 2021 in Megenwaje, BK Pora, Nowgam area of Srinagar . They shot him from the back when he was walking towards a Masjid for Maghreb Prayers. CCTV footage reveals, the cold blooded murder of the honest policeman when he was not on duty. An evil act committed by Evil incarnate itself, of a man who was on his way to connect with his God.
When team TRK visited Zeenat’s house few days later, we were greeted by 2 adorable little girls playing in the garden, and a smiling neighbour who came out to tell us about the family. “These are Pavaiz’s sisters’ daughters. He has two children of himself- a 13 year old daughter and 10 year old son. His wife is a very nice woman”…were the words.
Zeenat soon came out. Dressed in humble clothing, she looked sad but with a sense of pride. She asked in her soft spoken voice, “What can i do for you”. We asked her if her husband had received any threats lately she said ” Not at all, He was in the CID department. He would have known if there was any threat on him, and he could have easily arranged for his security”.
We asked if she received any compensation from the government, she barely opened her mouth to say the words ” We had visitors from the police department as well as from administration……” and then, from inside the house, in a frantic rush, he appeared- Javaid, Brother in law of Parvaiz, intimidating and hostile right from the start.
He indicated to rest of the family members and neighbours to walk away and not say a word to the press. He shoved the ladies and young boys of the family to go back inside the house. You can come in and drink tea with us and but we wont say anything to the press, said Javed to Team TRK.
We asked him about the compensation and he replied arrogantly-” Aes che ne zarurat kihine governmentas nish, Aesyi chi varia zameen, aes chi zamindar, te aesyi che real estate hund buisness”(We dont need anything from the Government, We are rich landlords and we have an established real estate business).
What was more astounding is that he refused to call his brother a shaheed (Martyr). “Beni , bu wanay akh kath, yeti chu na police walyen yezzat kihine” (Sister i want to let you know, police cops have no honour in our society).
We then asked him , why in that case was his brother in the police departrment , and he was quick to respond; ” There was a time, long time ago, when we had financial problems. But recently i told my brother many times to quit the police job. Yet he didnt.”
With these words he welcomed us inside for tea. We saw Parvaiz’s mother praying and making Dua to Allah Almighty to bestow mercy on her family.
Zeenat and her sister in law (Sister of Parvez and wife of Javed) soon walked back into the living room with tea and refreshments for us.
I quickly took this as an opportunity to guage the sentiments of other family members.
“Your brother in law is a shaheed. Let me tell you how”, i said to Javed , with my eyes on the women. ” These days terrorists are unable to procure arms and ammunition from across the border, so they are on a cop killing spree, they kill police officers so that they can grab their weapons to keep their terror operations running. Parvez was aware of this situation, he had no financial probems, yet he continued to serve as a policeman because he was not a coward. He wanted to continue his duty of securing the environment for others. And then he became a victim of these terrorists. He died a martyr, in his service for the nation.”
Pervaiz’s wife and sister looked at me with hope and a sense of pride. Zeenat suddenly beamed with hope that press and media would portray her husband a hero, which he obviously was. But at the same time the helplessness on her face was visible. She knew that she was not permitted to speak. As expected Javeds reaction to this was “Please go inside all of you”….and the ladies obeyed.
I tried to cover this in video, but Javed and his son were quick to snatch my phone and delete the clip.
“What are you trying to hide?”, I asked him. “Beni if you want to do anything for me, just pray for the departed soul, were Javed’s last words as he asked us to leave.”
Team TRK left the house with regret and a sense of doubt. Why was Javed behaving so strangely?
“Maybe the family is still in trauma” , said my cameraman as we walked out,
If it was trauma, they would have unleashed it in front of the camera and cried for justice, why didnt they?
“Maybe the family is scared”, said my other crew member.
“How can family of a police officer who served over 12 years in police department, be SCARED?”, I pondered.
And then there was that final conclusion which we all agreed upon, in unanimity.
Maybe the brother in law was ‘involved’.
Family land dispute, jealousy or simply political and ideological differences that made Javed “inform” the killers about Parvaiz’s whereabouts. Which is why Javaid was frantic and didn’t allow family members to talk. He may be scared that his involvement in the murder might become obvious.
Team TRK soon spoke to another honest cop Bilal Irfan to comprehend the strange behaviour of Dar family. Bilal and all his brothers including 11 cousin brothers serve in JK Police force and are pure Indian Nationalists by heart. ” Even if you get us other non government jobs with higher pay, we wont leave the police force. We are here to serve the country and to protect is our duty’, said Bilal. “The Dar family may say we cops have no respect but we don’t care about such comments. We know the value of our profession and we are not going to get deterred by such vile comments.” Relatives like Javaid are the main reason why terorists and their aides get courage to commit such acts of horror in Kashmir. It is unfortunate , Kashmiri Muslim society feels an innate sense to support and sympathize with their own killers”. The example of Mirwaiz Umer Farooq is testimony to this fact.
How many such cases go unsolved because families refuse to talk about martyrdom of their sons/ husbands/ brothers, stopped by vile relatives who give excuses like “Nobody respects so called martyrs of India in Kashmir” . And then you hear statements in press like “We Kashmiris are used to the fact that we never get justice” or “The press never covers the truth or reality in Kashmir”.
Clearly, It is not the Indian Government that is trying to suppress media in Kashmir. It is the degenerative thought process of few clusters of Kashmiri Muslim society that do so.
